Lleyn Peninsula
Pointing towards Ireland this is the crooked finger of a land teeming in tradition. The Welsh language predominates in an area of wild, dramatic scenery with towering cliffs and windy headlands but also quiet sandy beaches and sheltered coves. Even today no main road invades the tip of the Peninsula. Its promontory suddenly plunges into the sea opposite Bardsey Island, the island of 20,000 saints - where pilgrims made a perilous crossing to reach their journeys end.
The region enjoys a long coastling offering ideal sailing conditions such as those at Pwllheli, the main market town and shopping centre. And between the coastlines lie muscle stretching walks with splendid views.
