Visitors to Prestatyn will find the beautiful beach of Gronan Dunes about three miles to the east of the town. The beach is a fine sandy one, which is one hundred per cent dog friendly. This allows you to bring your dogs at any time through the year, and they are free to enjoy the whole beach.
With excellent water quality, it is great for a spot of swimming or bathing, and it has been awarded a Marine Conservation Society Recommendation, which means it is pristinely clean. In terms of facilities, there are plenty nearby in the village of Gronant, or there are restaurants and shops in nearby Prestatyn.
The entire dune system has been designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), because of its outstanding value to local wildlife. In fact, if you are a bird watcher, you will want to visit during the winter – roughly 20,000 water fowl and more than 100,000 waders call the area home during the colder months.
There is also a nature reserve here, as well as a golf course just next to the beach. Plenty to keep you occupied.
